| | | - Screening of Film "4" by Ilya Khrzhanovsky
-
- Jun 17, 2005

Russian American Business and Arts Council is a proud Participating Organization of the 2005 Los Angeles Film Festival (June 16 - 26). Russian American Business and Arts Council hosted a screening of "4" on June 17 at 9:00pm at the Laemmle Sunset 5.
Directed by: Ilya Khrzharnovsky Russia/ 126 Minutes Written by Vladimir Sorokin.
Cast includes Sergei Shnurov (Leningrad rock-group). Soundtreck by Leonid Fedorov (Auction АукцЫон)
From its startling opening scene to its assured conclusion, Ilya Khrzhanovsky's debut feature confounds expectations. Three disparate Moscow residents meet in a deserted bar and spin elaborate, dreamy lies. As the intimate talkfest draws to a close, the narrative splinters into an increasingly unnerving depiction of the characters' actual lives, driven by daring directorial choices, a riveting pace, and a sound design that augurs the end of the machine age. Winner of a Tiger Award at the Rotterdam Film Festival this year, 4 is filled with unforgettable images and deadpan, rueful humor. "4" on June 17 at 9:00pm at the Laemmle Sunset 5.

How free is Russia?s press? How effectively has it adjusted its role to the drastic changes in Russia?s government? Vitaly Ignatenko is in the unique position of having experienced both government-controlled media, under the USSR and a more open press environment in democratic Russia. ITAR-TASS (est. in 1904) is one of the world?s largest international information agencies. government-controlled media, under the USSR and a more open press environment in democratic Russia.
